RACE REPORT 2023
Wednesday 9th August 2023 saw us host our annual Alchester 5k race. This was the second year of our new super flat, fast course in the village of Marsh Gibbon. We were delighted to sell out, with Alchester members bagging the last two places on the night.
Out of the 250 entries, we had 211 runners with lots of PBs. The course record was broken by Matt Lock (15.29) and Charlie Arnell (17.00). It really is a PB course! Well done to all the Alchester runners, with James Wright and Amy Concannon our first finishers. Congratulations to everyone who ran – check out the results.
We have had lots of great feedback, especially for our incredible marshals. A huge thank you to all of you, your family and friends for giving up your time and for going all out, encouraging and motivating the runners. We couldn’t put on the race without you!
“Just a quick email to say how fab all the marshals were on Wednesday. Every single one of them had words of encouragement and it was greatly appreciated. Thank you for putting on such a good, friendly race.”
“Thank you for keeping me motivated to keep going. Please say thank you to the marshals. They were very encouraging.”
“Your marshals were ace! Heaps of them and great traffic controls. Thanks to all of them!”
“Thank you for organising the race. There were a lot of people at our club who loved the flat fast route.”
A massive thank you to Andrew Stickley and Antony Giles who took the day off to set up the course. Thanks also to Steph from Perspective Images for the photos, Adrian Lambourne from the Milk Churn who provided the car park, and to Marsh Gibbon Cricket Club for the venue. Finally I want to say a huge thank you to the race committee: Andrew Stickley, Mike Fisher, Emma Nelson, Rachel Bowen, Alan Bowen, Danny Buttress, Emily Davenall & Lewis Long. I think we can safely say they did a brilliant job!
Pencil in Wednesday 7th and 14th August 2024 for next year. See you then!
