This weeks update is one of 2 halves, both of which are equally important.

Alchester weekly update 1 of 2 – SPOND

This week the club is launching a new app called Spond. Spond is an app designed for sports teams and clubs to keep members up to date with the latest events, news and social activities, but also to act as a communication tool to give you immediate news as and when it happens (which would have been very handy to communicate the delays at Cross Country yesterday!). Not everyone is on Facebook, and we don’t always want to wait until the Monday newsletter to get information out, so this is another source.

When you first open the app, you’ll find you’ve already been invited to a whole host of events. We’ve added the End of Season Awards and every race in the club championships already so you can start planning your season. When entry details/results become listed online, we will add them to the event listing on the app.

Social Runs
We’ll be adding our social runs to the events calendar in due course, where you can confirm your attendance through the app. We’ve had requests in the past to add social runs at weekends, so now all members have a tool for organising these. Members can create their own events, or simply just ask if anyone is available at a time for a run.

The Future
There’s more features available on the app that we’d like to try in the future. It allows for payments, which means that you can confirm payment and attendance in one place for Motavation races, membership fees and social events.

This app is new and exciting, and we don’t expect it to be an immediate success, but it has potential to be really useful. The more we try and use it, the better we understand it, and the more helpful it becomes.

When you first create your profile, there’s a couple of things to note. By default, it will list your phone number on your profile, make sure to change the privacy setting so that only admins can see it (by admins, that’s only a couple of officers, not the full committee). Expect to receive lots of notifications in the first few weeks while we set everyone up with all the club events, you can also turn these off if it gets too much!

You can join the app by clicking on the following link: https://group.spond.com/PACPB

Any questions stick them on Spond & we’ll endeavour to answer them.
