Slightly delayed update as there was a committee meeting last night so some news is very new
Cross Country 2022-23
It’s that time of year when we start talking about mud (& cake!). Cross country returns for another season. It’s fun with everyone having a vital role to play no matter if you finish in the first 50 or the last 50 & there’ll be cake! We can’t encourage you enough over the next few weeks to have a go.
This year we will again be entering the Oxfordshire league which is held on the first Sunday of each month (January it’s the 2nd Sunday). There are however some very important changes which you need to be aware of – see below.
First of all the venues for this season are going to be:
– November – Newbury (6th Nov)
– December – Cirencester (4th Dec)
– January – Horspath (Oxford) (8th Jan)
– February – Cotswold Farm Park (5th Feb)
– March – Henley (5th Mar)
The biggest difference this season is that there’s now an entry fee per runner for the series in a similar way as Motivation works. You pay for the series & your entry for all the races is confirmed. The cost is £20 for the series. You will be required to pay for your entry (you’ll pay Alchester who will then make a bulk payment to the League).
At this stage we’re still awaiting individual entry final details & what information is required so hold on before sending anything through – hopefully next weeks update will give firmer instructions.
Races will again be equal distances for men & ladies of around 5 miles (8km) & team sizes remain unchanged.
Both the mens & ladies teams are in Division 1 with our other teams finishing well up in their leagues. As mentioned everyone who runs has a role to play & all we ask is to try & beat the runner in front of you.
Spikes or multi-terrain trainers are usually best for all the courses.
Gary Warland will be co-ordinating entries so any questions just ask him (if don’t know how to get hold of him reply to this email).
We have to provide a marshal about a couple of races but more information to follow however volunteers to commute, setup & take down the tent will be welcome. Full training will be given! A flask, tea & coffee “monitor” handy too.
Club Champs Scores
Marathon season is well under way with at least 2 Alchester runners in Berlin yesterday.
Don’t forget if you do a marathon to let Lewis know your time.
Good luck to all those running London this weekend. Don’t be late for the coach!
If you haven’t already done so before the end of this month you’ll need to send your best Bicester Parkrun time to Lewis.
End of Season Awards & Party
The date is confirmed as Saturday 19th November & more details will follow from the social team about venue.
There will be communication in the next update about awards nominations & the process including for those who are new what they are.
Club Nights this week
Tuesday’s have now returned to Gavray Drive (meet at the railway end – not roundabout end)
Thursday’s are back of the sports centre. It’s been great to see numbers ever increasing & some newbies coming along.
