Hopefully people are back in the running routine.
London Marathon Bus
Alchester Running Club now welcome bookings for the bus to and from the London Marathon on Sunday 21st April 2024.
Bookings are open to all, whether a member of Alchester, our friends from other local running clubs, or anybody else running or wishing to enjoy a fun filled day spectating at this world class event.
Booking early is advised due to the ongoing uncertainty around the train and London Underground strikes with further industrial action likely.
The Alchester Marathon bus will take runners directly to the start in the most relaxed and stress free manner.
Our regular bus partner went out of business recently, but we have now partnered with another reputable local company. Due to increased cost, it has been necessary to slightly alter prices this year, but it is still fantastic value at only £25 per person for members and £30 per person for non-members. (Still cheaper than a standard rail fare and can be relied upon to get you to the start in time!)
The bus will leave the rear of Bicester Leisure Centre at 6am hours sharp. (Meeting at 5.45am.)
Runners will be dropped at the start at Blackheath in good time, and spectators will have the choice of getting off there or at Marble Arch in Central London.
For the return, the bus will pick up runners and spectators from very close to the finish at the designated bus pick-up point outside the RAC Club, Pall Mall leaving promptly at 5pm and returning to Bicester around 6.30pm.
Wendy and Ian Hunter have organised this bus for several years and have a lot of London Marathon experience, they will help runners get to the right start area and be on hand to answer any questions.
If you would like a place(s) on the bus, please email Wendy Hunter.
NB! Please note that your place on the bus is not confirmed until payment is made in full, and we cannot provide refunds if you choose to cancel after payment.
2024 AGM Notice
The 2024 Alchester AGM will be on Thursday 08 Feb at The Littlebury Hotel at 20:30.
All are encouraged to attend. Agenda to follow.
We are always looking for new people & fresh ideas for the club committee. There’s no need to commit to role prior to understanding what might be involved but as the saying goes “many hands makes light work.”
Jonathan is your person to chat to if keen.
Thank you to all those who have given their time & efforts this year.
Club Nights This Week
The weather should be ok & avoid the need for any talk of cancellations this week but please dress appropriately for the colder temperatures.
Tuesday’s are back in the groove. Mile reps is the session.
Usual meeting of the railway end of Gavray Drive.
Again this week & everyone new, old & regular is encouraged to come along on Thursday. The more the merrier so spread the word.
Various groups from 7:10-7:15 miling all the way to a relaxed group. Biggest group is invariably either the 8:30’s or 9:30’s so groups for everyone.
Simple rule is each runs for 50-55 minutes in a chatty manner (save your PB’s for races!).
Have a good week & we look forward to seeing lots of people on Tuesday & Thursday.
