A bumper week of messages including some important social news as well as a long promised club champs update.

Alchester 5k

Wednesday 9th August saw us host our annual Alchester 5k race. This was the second year of our new super flat, fast course in the village of Marsh Gibbon.

We were delighted to sell out, with Alchester members bagging the last two places on the night.

Out of the 250 entries, we had 211 runners with lots of PBs. The course record was broken by Matt Lock (15.29) and Charlie Arnell (17.00). It really is a PB course! Well done to all the Alchester runners, with James Wright first back for the men and Amy Concannon for the women. Congratulations to everyone who ran – check out the results here: https://www.racetecresults.com/results.aspx?CId=16418&RId=837

We have had lots of great feedback, and lots of this was for our incredible marshals. A huge thank you to all of you, your family and friends for giving up your time and for going all out, encouraging and motivating the runners. We couldn’t put on the race without you so it’s great to get such incredible feedback! Here is some of it:

“Just a quick email to say how fab all the marshals were on Wednesday. Every single one of them had words of encouragement and it was greatly appreciated. Thank you for putting on such a good, friendly race.”

“Thank you for keeping me motivated to keep going. Please say thank you to the marshals. They were very encouraging.”

“Your marshals were ace! Heaps of them and great traffic controls. Thanks to all of them!”

“Thank you for organising the race. There were a lot of people at our club who loved the flat fast route.”

Thank you to Adrian Lambourne who provided the car park – check out the Milk Churn, and to Marsh Gibbon Cricket Club for the venue.

A massive thank you to Andrew Stickley and Antony Giles who took the day off to set up the course. I don’t think Antony realised he would be shovelling a ton of gravel into a flooded car park entrance! And thanks to Steph Giles for the photos of the night – please see: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.305077688710513&type=3

And finally I want to say a huge thank you to the race committee: Andrew Stickley, Mike Fisher, Emma Nelson, Rachel Bowen, Alan Bowen, Danny Buttress, Emily Davenall & Lewis Long. I think we can safely say they did a brilliant job!

Pencil in Wednesday 7th and 14th August 2024 for next years race. See you then!

Social update #1 – Social Runs

With all the focus on the organisation of our super successful 5k this month, we have decided to keep it simple for this month.

Thursday 24th August we will start and finish our normal Thursday Runs at Whitelands Sports Ground which will mean routes will likely be similar to a normal Thursday, but there will be an opportunity for a drink together at the bar after.

Thursday 31st August is the last Mota-vation of the season; which means the bar at Stratfield Brake is normally open after the event, and again, it would be wonderful to see as many people in Alchester vests (or Hoodies given it is the Great British Summertime) all stopping for a drink after that as well.

In September we hope to squeeze in one last countryside social towards the beginning of the month, but if not we will look to arrange the new ‘Winter Style’ social towards the end of the month instead which will be where we will endeavour to have one Thursday a month where we start and finish our ring road laps at one of Bicester’s fine drinking establishments! Any suggestions and requests are always welcome.

Social update #2 – End of Season Party, save the date
Awards night Friday November 10th

We have booked Chesterton golf club for our annual awards diner & dance. The date is Friday 10th November so please add it to your diary.

Everyone is invited along with partners friends family etc.

We will be sending out more details on how to book very soon so please keep an eye out for this.
