Hi,

3 key messages for this weeks update.

Cross Country 2023-24

The first cross country is only 4 weeks away. First race is at Cornbury.

If you are intending to run please put your name down by following the link below.

Google Sheets: Sign-in

Costs for this season are again £20 & this covers the whole series. Don’t worry if you can’t do November race, you can enter the series from December onwards & it’ll be £16. There is no option to pick & choose races. Monies should be paid to the club who will then make a bulk payment.

If you’re new to the club & have no idea about cross country it’s a great form of competitive fun over the winter months. Mud & hills make it even better! The club tent will always be there (usually stocked with cakes if the bakers come along & hot drinks if someone remembers the milk!).

Spikes are usually best but a pair of multi-terrains are equally fine. They’ll keep you upright. You’ll need a club vest.

It’s really good fun, a rare opportunity to run as a team, every runner counts & a smug feeling of satisfaction on a Sunday afternoon. All races are on the first Sunday of each month starting in November going through to March.

Simon Worfolk & Alasdair Kerr are team managers this year so give them a shout if any questions. Don’t worry others will cajole & encourage you, we don’t want you missing out!

Social Night – Thursday 12 October – #Run&Talk

Meet at Bure Farm pub car park at 6:45pm.

It’s World Mental Health Day on Tuesday 10 October and we are encouraging all our members to recognise the benefits of running together for improving and maintaining good mental wellbeing. Going for a run with a friend between the 9th and 16th October? Tag Alchester on your Strava and social media feeds using #RunandTalk. If you feel able, you can also share your own mental health stories throughout the week.

Our next social run on Thursday 12 October is a great opportunity to get planning those catch-ups or find a new running buddy.

We will meet at the Bure Farm pub at 6:45pm. We will have various paced groups including the relaxed group and run our usual Thursday routes before going for a drink in the Bure Farm where we have reserved a section of the pub. Please note we will not be meeting at the sports centre on this evening.

Newcomers very much welcome & encouraged.
