About Alchester Running Club

We are a small(ish) and friendly running club, based in Bicester, Oxfordshire. The club is  named after the old Roman town and fort of Alchester, just to the west of modern-day Bicester. Some of the older members claim to have fond memories of the Roman occupation!

Our members compete in road races ranging from 5k to marathons and beyond, multi-terrain races, cross country leagues and trail running. We have a thriving internal club championship series which includes both road running and multi-terrain events. We hold regular social evenings and organise our own race each summer – the Alchester 5k.

Our club logo is the Phoenix, a mythical bird which rose from the flames of its own death. As those who were involved with the club’s formation will testify, its birth back in 1999 was difficult, but we have moved on greatly since then with an ever-changing running community and steadily growing membership. We are competitive at club level in the county and provide a social framework which we hope members will enjoy alongside their running.

Our Mission Statement is:

‘To be recognised as a local centre of excellence and support for the promotion of running as a sport to all comers over the age of 18, at all levels of ability’.
